Petronas Towers

The tallest twin towers in the world, the Petronas Towers stand almost 1500 feet tall. Surrounded by the impressive skyline of Kuala Lumpur, the Petronas Towers are remarkable when lit at night.

Where: The Petronas Towers sit in the heart of downtown Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia.

When: Anytime of year is fine. The towers are best photographed in the early evening when the lights are still on (they typically go off after midnight). Photography: You can wander around the base of the towers looking for interesting foregrounds to juxtapose against the towers in the background; however, if you are close to the towers with a wide-angle lens looking up you will get noticeable perspective distortion. Or, you can try to find a place in a nearby building to get a higher perspective. There are a number of hotels in the area, so if you are staying the night in Kuala Lumpur, consider finding a room looking into the towers. The towers are best photographed during twilight and at night when the building lights are on. You may need to do some exposure blending to ensure detail in both highlight and shadow areas of the image. Learn more: You can visit the site for the Petronas Towers to learn more about the towers and get access inside (note that you don't need to go inside the towers for photography). © Ian Plant
