Gustav Vigeland (1869-1943) was Norway's best known sculptor. He created a fascinating sculpture garden in Oslo's Frogner Park with over 200 sculptures dealing with the life cycle: birth, childhood, adolescence, maturity, old age and death. His Monolith was carved from a single column of solid granite 57 feet high consisting of 121 figures.
