It is super important to try to minimize stress on the fish, so the shot is previsulaized and prefocused. Lift fish, click, revive (if necessary) and release. Shooting inside a driftboat is a bit constricting, but when the fishing is slow and conversation fades, I try to previsualize with a promising composition. My buddy Eric (nicknamed Madge because I have so many shots of his hands ..... if you are old enough to get that one) and i hae talked a lot about diagonals, leading lines and trying to introduce energy to images, so it really is a collaborative effort.
