From time to time I do a bit of street photography, especially when I am in New York City, and yesterday was a perfect day to do it. The 10th and final NYC Body Painting Day was held on Sunday, July 23, in Union Square Park. This annual event is run by artist Andy Golub of Human Connection Arts, a not for profit that holds large-scale public art events to promote unity and acceptance of all people. Yesterday 26 artists body painted 45 nude models of all genders, shapes, sizes and ages (20s-80s) in the park from noon to 4 pm. Then all paraded through Greenwich Village for a photo in Washington Square and then boarded a double-decker bus to cross the Manhattan Bridge for a party in Brooklyn. Despite the heat, hundreds of New Yorkers turned out to watch. Golub began painting nudes in 2007. The event has been held at other landmarks such as Times Square and Columbus Circle. Nudity for artistic purposes is legal in New York City. Next Spring Golub is planning a new event in connection with Coney Island USA and HuffPost Trends/Buzzfeed called BodyFest.
